St. Ignatius University Kabale (IGUKA) was founded by the Kabale Diocese. It obtained a University Provisional License from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) on 31st August 2023 to operate as a non-profit private University in Uganda. It is located in Kabale Municipality, Kabale District along Kabale-Katuna Road 2.5 km from Kabale Municipal Centre. Its strategic location close to neighboring countries of Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Tanzania and Burundi that have more or less similar geo-agricultural, geological, technological, and cultural similarities gives it a unique position to attract and influence national and international students. It was inaugurated for operation on August 24, 2024. The occasion saw Bishop Callist Rubaramira installed as the First Chancellor and Rev. Fr. Prof, Maximiano Ngabirano installed as the first Vice Chancellor
