WhatsApp Data Science is looking for an experienced manager to lead our AI DS team, to deeply understand trends with the industry and AI features on WhatsApp, shape the strategy to establish Product/Market fit with new and evolving AI consumer use cases, establish data foundations and processes to increase our product pipeline velocity, identify opportunities to drive growth of AI features, and execute on projects by partnering with a large cross-functional team to deliver long-term impact, in an area with high interest from Meta leadership. WhatsApp AI is a large organization charged with accelerating the adoption of consumer AI features at Whatsapp. The innovation in this broad space is rapid - AI agents, chat-assistive features or new ways to use AI with media - and this organization is moves fast to build features not only at the cutting edge of AI, but to the scale of our 2.5B+ Whatsapp userbase. We are in the midst of advancing our approach to analytics and becoming an increasingly data-informed organization. We're looking for someone who can provide transformational leadership, institute new methodologies in this new space, and shape a healthy focus on data. You can be expected to jointly build the strategy for Whatsapp AI, shape the MVP and growth playbook for AI features, get into the weeds of adoption/retention tactics as well as zooming out to the big picture of the overall strategy and approach. You will regularly work with experienced product leaders at WhatsApp, and AI analytics leaders across Meta.
Shape the strategic direction of our AI initiatives
Invest in data foundations and analytical methods to sharpen our understanding of growth levers
Hire & support the DS team in an ambiguous and fast paced environment
Partner with a cross-functional team to achieve our ambitious long-term goals
Monitor performance against Whatsapp's ambitious AI adoption and growth goals
Build extensive experimentation rigor across AI launches, and growth and optimization experiments
BS degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, operations research, econometrics, computer science, engineering), or BS/MS in a quantitative discipline with equivalent working experience
A minimum of 7 years of work experience (3+ years with a Ph.D.) in applied quantitative field, including 2+ years of experience managing analytics teams
5+ years of experience in a team leadership role, including 2+ years of experience with people management through layers
A minimum of 2 years of experience working on consumer facing products
Experience communicating both in low-level technical details as well as high-level strategies
Experience in cross-functional partnership among teams of Engineering, Design, PM, Data Engineering
Demonstrated executive communication skills, given the need to present to Leadership Executives at Whatsapp
Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or another quantitative field.
Proven track record of leading high-performing analytics teams.
7+ years of experience doing quantitative analysis, statistical modeling or machine learning in the experimentation space
Prior experience directly working on incubating and growing new features in consumer apps
